The Religious
Liberties Amendment
Joint Resolution
Proposing a
religious liberties amendment to the Constitution of the United
States to secure the people's right to acknowledge God according to
the dictates of conscience.
Resolved by the Senate and House of
Representatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled (two-thirds of each House concurring therein),
That the following article is proposed as an amendment to the
Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all
intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when ratified by
the legislatures of three-fourths of the several States within seven
years after the date of its submission for ratification:
"ARTICLE--
"To secure the people's
right to acknowledge God according to the dictates of conscience:
Nothing in this Constitution shall prohibit acknowledgments of the
religious heritage, beliefs, or traditions of the people, or
prohibit student-sponsored prayer in public schools. Neither the
United States nor any State shall compose any official prayer or
compel joining in prayer, or discriminate against religious
expression or belief."
