Religious Freedom Coalition endorses Fasting and Prayer Resolution March 26, 2003 - Washington, DC William J. Murray, Chairman of the Religious Freedom Coalition, today said that he enthusiastically supports H. R. 153, the Fasting and Prayer Resolution offered by Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO). Following is Murray’s statement concerning the proposed Resolution: "I know that thousands of our friends and supporters at the Religious Freedom Coalition will want to join together with other Americans for a special time of repentence and prayer for God’s guidance and protection as our people face unprecedented dangers at home and on foreign fields of battle." "This country is the greatest military power on earth and the envy of people everywhere for our wealth and standard of living. But we as Americans must never forget that all our blessings come from our Creator. It is God who has sustained our country since its founding, through many wars and potential disasters. In times of danger, from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War, to the wars of the twentieth century, our leaders have traditionally encouraged the people to humbly pray for America’s survival." "It is very appropriate that we should continue the long American tradition of joining together as a people in times of trouble, to examine our own hearts and consciences and acknowledge our dependence on the Almighty. We at the Religious Freedom Coalition sincerely hope that this Resolution will have many co-sponsors in the Congress, and that Americans of various religious and ethnic groups and political parties will put aside their differences for a time, to bow before God as one people, praying for America."
