LEGISLATIVE UPDATE - WEEK ENDING DECEMBER 24, 2004
HOUSE AND SENATE IN RECESS
THE CONGRESS
SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE
Remember the fight over Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) becoming the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee? We fought hard to stop this very socially liberal, pro-abortion Republican from taking over this powerful committee. Although he got the post we won some powerful concessions from him including his written promise that he would not block pro-life judges appointed by President George W. Bush. This week Senators Sam Brownback (R-KS) and Tom Coburn (R-OK) were named to the Senate Judiciary Committee as part of the deal. (Although I am sure everyone will deny that.) Sam is the most socially conservative Senator in the Republican Party. He "carries the water" for most of the social conservative legislation in the Senate and heads the Senate Values Action Team which I am associated with. Dr. Tom Coburn has not as yet been sworn in as a Senator as this is his first term. In the House he was a leader of the pro-life social conservative movement. In a statement the ultra-left group People for the American Way (PAW) said, "It's hard to believe the Judiciary Committee could go any farther to the right, but it just has." All I can say is praise God! (GING-PAC, the political action committee I chair supported both Sam Brownback and Tom Coburn in the November elections.)
CHRISTMAS AT RFC
RFC CHRISTMAS STORE
Since November 26th our online Christmas store has sold $9,018.47 worth of products. Proceeds from the sales will be used for various RFC projects including supporting Christian schools and individual Christian families in areas of the Holy Land controlled by the Palestinian Authority. This weekend we will place some items on closeout sale so we do not have to return them to vendors. Please check the store at www.rfcstore.com. About 10% of the RFC budget is generated at our Internet store!
Although we had good financial news from our Internet store, the Religious Freedom Coalition still has not reached its financial budget goals for 2004. There is still one week left in the year and we remain hopeful that God will, through His people, supply the needs of this organization. If you are planning tax deductible gifts for 2004 it is now possible to donate online to specific projects of the RFC, both domestic and International. To make a contribution to our work click here .
I pray for God's grace to all as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
