HOUSE IN RECESS / SENATE IN RECESS

RFC MISSION TO THE MIDDLE EAST 

My trip to Bethlehem has been postponed for one week because I have been invited on a fact-finding mission to Egypt. I will not arrive in Bethlehem until August 7th. My primary mission while there will be the distribution of grants to Christian families with school age children. Grants will only be given to families who agree to place their children in Christian schools during the coming school year. The Christian families who we assist will be able to avoid sending their children to the public schools, which teach a culture of death. Because of the delay in my arrival in Bethlehem you can still help with a gift to the Bethlehem Project. The more funds received before August 7th, the more children who can be helped. COMCAST ADVISORY - Some ATTBI subscribers were not properly programmed into our system when COMCAST bought ATTBI. As a result some ATTBI subscribers have not been receiving these updates at their COMCAST addresses. The problem has been resolved. AOL ADVISORY - The filtering problem at AOL has been resolved and was not a deliberate act on the part of AOL. AOL has corrected the problem

PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS

THE SENATE AND THE COURT

Congress will adjourn today and will not return to formal session until September 7, 2005. During the August recess the overwhelming majority of congressmen and Senators will be holding town meetings in their home states. Yes, some will travel, but the majority will be working their base. (Senator Inhofe always does evangelism in Africa during the recess and Senator Frist, a doctor, does heart surgeries in third world nations. Senator Ted Kennedy will NOT be traveling to Iraq or Afghanistan to visit our troops. He is the only Senator who has NOT visited the troops.)

August is the best time to contact a Senator at his local office about the nomination of Judge John G. Roberts to the Supreme Court, and the liberals know that all too well. NARAL, The National Organization for Women, People for the American Way and George Soros' Moveon.org have set up networks to send tens of thousands of fax messages, e-mails and phone calls to Senators against John Roberts because he is a conservative Catholic. The Associated Press actually ran a story that was fed to them by the extreme left that pointed out that if Roberts is confirmed there will be four Catholics on the Court ... The story did not point out that one of those, Justice Kennedy, favors Roe v Wade and has voted to uphold it. Indeed, some of the most liberal men the Court has ever had have called themselves Catholic. The real agenda of liberals is not to have any man of faith who holds to the Bible on the Supreme Court bench.

As mentioned in last week's update I expect Majority Leader Frist and Judiciary Committee Chairman Specter to try to force hearings torward the last week of August even though the Senate will not be in formal session. MAJOR RFC ACTIVITIES THIS WEEK

HOLLY'S LAW

Twice a month I co-chair the Family Forum meetings in Washington at which various pro-family issues are discussed. This week Congressman Roscoe Bartlett's office gave us an update on additional deaths which have been caused by the abortion drug RU-486. This human pesticide was approved by the Clinton Administration as an "emergency" measure before he departed office. So far five California women have died after taking the drug to kill their babies. Why have all the deaths been in California? First, the state is more socially liberal and things like RU-486 are more available, and is usually not looked down upon socially. Second, California has the best coroner system in the United States and the causes of death are more accurately listed than in other states. More than likely, many other women have died using RU-486, but the cause of death has been listed as "toxic shock" or "uterus hemorrhaging." So far the distributor of the drug has reported 600 "adverse effects" to the FDA. These would be the most serious side effects of the drugs, requiring medical aid. Keep in mind that RU-486 is not a widely used drug like Vioxx, which was recalled for a similar death versus use rate. House passage is likely but there may be Senate problems. Please contact your congressman and ask for his support of HR-1079 (Holly's Law - named after one of the drug's victims). This law would remove the human pesticide RU-486 from the market.
