Conservatives abandon President over treatment of jailed Border Patrol agents - Republican congressman uses the word impeachment / House Democrats are led in Muslim conversion prayer and Speaker Pelosi demands jet as big as VP Cheney's / Senate to investigate DHS and White House over Border Patrol Agent prosecution / RFC works with Black pro-life group on Capitol Hill
THE PRESIDENT
BORDER GUARD DISGRACE - Conservative California Republican Congressman Rep. Dana Rohrabacher has mentioned the word "impeachment" with regard to White House conduct in the case of two Border Control agents jailed for shooting and wounding a drug smuggler in the buttocks. The smuggler and his family were given Green cards in exchange for lying in a court of law to jail the agents. The government even excused a second smuggling arrest of the Mexican criminal so he would not be in jail and could testify against the lawmen. Federal attorneys withheld evidence from the defense and from the jury.
The prosecution of Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean seems to have been orchestrated by the White House virtually from the beginning and members of the House and Senate are just now getting the details. The White House is accused of wanting to send a stern message that no guns are to be used on the Mexican border to stop illegals even if they are smugglers. The White House strategy on the case seems to have backfired and could become a scandal that mars the last two years of the Bush presidency. Conservatives are fast distancing themselves from the White House over the treatment of the Border Agents. Note to White House: Cheap labor to hold down inflation is not worth the destruction of the rule of law. Click here for "Legislators Fume"
THE HOUSE
PRAYER FOR DEMOCRATS TO BECOME MUSLIMS - During their annual retreat, the Democrats invited a Muslim cleric to pray for them and he did. He prayed for their conversion to Islam and for the destruction of Israel. While the prayer was veiled in such a way that the Democrats had no real idea of what he was saying, Islamic scholars did indeed understand and reported on it. Click here for the full story as reported by World Net Daily.
CONGRESSMAN NORWOOD NEEDS OUR PRAYERS - Republican congressman Charlie Norwood of Georgia will be leaving Washington, DC by air ambulance to return to hospice care in Augusta. He said he wanted to stop his cancer treatments and "... Let the Lord decide what to do." Congressman Norwood was just reelected to his 7th term in November of last year. Dr. Norwood, who is a Methodist, practiced dentistry before being elected to Congress.
NANCY'S JET - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi demanded the military supply to her for her personal transporation the same type of jet used by Vice President Cheney. The request for the jet included 45 business class seats for her "supporters" and a separate sleeping area for herself. The former Republican Speaker Hastert used a ten seat jet, and former Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich used commercial flights. While congressional Republicans were outraged at the expense of $110,000 one way to take Speaker Pelosi home to San Francisco each week, the White House announced its support of the outrageous expenditure. The plane will also be used to shuttle Pelosi around the nation to help raise funds for Democrats seeking to oust Republicans from office.
THE SENATE
INVESTIGATION OF BORDER INCIDENT - Ultra liberal Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) has received permission from Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) to start an investigation of Homeland Security for giving false and misleading testimony and documents to the Congress concerning the prosecution of Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. (See story above.) Officials of the Department of Homeland Security now admit that there is no evidence that Ramos and Compean said they were "out to shoot Mexicans" as the DHS had stated to Congress to provide cover for the White House operation against the agents. Other statements in testimony and documents provided by DHS also appear to be false or misleading. Both Republicans and Democrats are looking into White House misconduct with regard to the prosecution of the agents while giving members of a drug cartel amnesty to testify against them.
RELIGION AND SOCIETY
NATIONAL BLACK PRO-LIFE UNION - Yesterday I had the honor to attend a luncheon in the Mansfield Room of the Capitol Building in support of the National Black Pro Life Union. The luncheon was made possible in this prestigious location by Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS) who was also one of the speakers at the event. The lunch was organized by Day Gardner who is the national director of Black Americans for Life. Pro-life Democratic Senator Ben Nelson of Nebraska spoke about his days as a youth pastor and his pro-life convictions that led him to support President Bush in passing the Partial Birth Abortion Ban. Senator Nelson is one of the few truly pro-life Democrats remaining in Congress. In Washington, DC which is predominantly black, there are more abortions each year than live births. Nationally more than one-third of black pregnancies end in abortion each year and the black birth rate has fallen below the white birth rate.
