THE PRESIDENT PRESIDENTIAL DEFEAT- The amnesty for illegals bill drafted by the Bush White House and Senator Ted Kennedy fell flat on its face in the Senate because the citizens said "no mas." Americans have watched as President Bush allowed more than six million illegals to cross the border since 9-11. Now no one takes it seriously that he will enforce any new laws passed and do not want those already in the United States illegally to receive amnesty. BATTERED IN THE POLLS - President Bush now has a favorable rating of just 31%, with most conservatives and born-again Christians abandoning him. Just 46% of conservatives and only 42% of born- again Christians give the President a favorable rating. The underlying cause seems to be the deals he has cut with Senator Ted Kennedy over the years to pass legislation - including amnesty for illegals - that goes totally against conservative philosophy. Click here for Foxnews poll results. THE HOUSE REINING IN THE LIBERALS HR-2829, the Financial Services Act, covers a broad range of areas including the funding for Washington, DC. Conservative Republicans have put forth several important amendments to this bill to stop liberals run amok. Congressman Virgil Goode, (R-VA) offered an amendment to forbid the use of any federal funds in Washington, DC for "domestic partners." Congressman Mark Souder (R-IN) offered an amendment to stop the use of funds to give needles to heroin addicts. He said the funds would be better used for treatment centers. DC has only 80 treatment beds for about 20,000 hard core addicts. FAIRNESS DOCTRINE - Many younger Americans do not remember the pre-Ronald Reagan days when speech in the United States was undermined by the "fairness doctrine." House radicals led by Nancy Pelosi have been chomping at the bits to bring back this old clamp down on free speech. If they had been successful in returning the "Fairness Doctrine", any radio station carrying Rush Limbaugh would be forced to carry a program of equal length by a liberal, even if no one listened to it. No station could afford giving free time to all those liberals, so they would have to stop the conservative broadcasts and just have music. Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN) offered an amendment to the Financial Services Act (HR-2829) to forbid the FCC from instituting any "fairness doctrine" rules. Just today, that amendment passed the House by a vote of 309 to 115! NOTE: The liberals do not want these rules for areas they dominate, such as network TV news or Internet broadcasts - just for talk radio where conservatives dominate. HOUSE IN RECESS - Today the House went into recess for the July 4th holiday. The House will reconvene on Monday, July 9th. THE SENATE AMNESTY DIES AGAIN - For the second time in just a few weeks the voice of the people has risen up and stopped the Bush-Kennedy amnesty bill. The offices of Senators were overwhelmed with calls, faxes and letters against the amnesty bill and at one point the Senate phone system crashed, allowing no inbound or outbound calls because of the volume. As the vote neared I was in the Russell Senate office building where I visited the offices of Senators John McCain, John Warner, Jim Webb, Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe. Senator Inhofe helped lead the fight against amnesty while McCain pushed the Bush-Kennedy bill the hardest. As a result of McCain's efforts on behalf of those illegally in the United States, he has dropped to fourth in the Iowa polls behind Mike Huckabee. Senator McCain should drop out of the race for president now and save himself the embarrassment. Click here to few the short clip of Senator DeMint. SENATE IN RECESS - Today the Senate went into recess for the July 4th holiday. The Senate will reconvene on Monday, July 9th. RELIGION AND CULTURE SUPREME COURT ALLOWS FREE SPEECH! - The McCain-Feingold "Campaign Reform Act" specifically stated that groups such as the Religious Freedom Coalition could not criticize a candidate for public office within a 60-day period before an election. Next year, for example, we could not run an advertisement saying that Hillary Clinton was pro-abortion. More than anything the bill was aimed at keeping incumbents with bad records, such as Senator John McCain, in office. The Supreme Court ruled that part of the bill unconstitutional, and as a result non-profit organizations are once again free to talk about the records of candidates prior to an election. SUPREME COURT FOR FAITH BASED- The Freedom From Religion Foundation (a bunch of atheists) filed a law suit to block faith based organizations from participating in federal programs. This week the Supreme Court ruled that the atheists had "no standing" to file the suit. SUPREME COURT AND DRUG MESSAGES - The Supreme Court also ruled that a high school had the right to censor a student from delivering a message that promotes drug use. Previously the Nutty 9th Circuit had ruled that a high school student had a constitutional right to hold up a banner that said "Bong hits for Jesus." INTERNATIONAL CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS IN LEBANON - More than 25% of Lebanese children are educated in private Christian schools. Of those about 25% are the children of "moderate" Muslims. With money from Iran and Saudi Arabia, extremist Muslims are setting up fundamentalist schools next to the Christian schools and actually paying some students to attend. This week I escorted Father Marwan Tablet who heads a fund raising effort for Christian schools in Lebanon to various meetings with government officials and private organizations willing to help Christian schools in Lebanon.
